JOB SUMMARY: A Technical Writer is required to document policy, process, procedures and workflows related to NIST SP800-53 Rev 4 Security Requirements. This is a full time contract position reporting Mon. thru Fri. at the client location in Herndon, VA. The contract duration is for 1 year. The Tech Writer will revise existing, and create new documentation based on review of the current data set, interviews with staff and general research/discovery. Ideal candidates will have experience doing similar work in the federal space, especially with security requirements. The candidate will be need to high-level direction and be self-directed to develop their work plan, provide on-going status, and be able to engage with staff at all levels of the organization.
ESSENTIAL JOB KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Requires extensive knowledge of federal IT standards such as Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) and NIST SP800-53 Rev 4 Security Requirements
Responsible to review current technical and policy documentation, and use that information to create Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) as needed to support compliance with NIST SP800-53 Rev 4 Security Requirements
Has understanding of Third-party Assessment Organizations (3PAO and Authorization and Accreditation (A&A) processes
Responsible for drafting new documentation, and editing existing documentation to ensure accuracy and adherence to NIST SP800-53 Rev 4 Security Requirements
Maintains and meets deliverable schedules. Must be proactive in obtaining information from multiple internal and external teams
Must interview subject matter experts (SME), business owners, and process owners to develop, edit, and revise technical documentation including standard operating procedures, system security plans, and policies and procedures
Performs job with minimal supervision applying sound judgment and prioritizing workload independently
Creates and/or edits technical drawings and creating flow charts using MS Visio or similar design tools
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and Viso), Microsoft SharePoint, and also Adobe Acrobat Professional
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated technical writing ability to include organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
Ability to proof-read contributions from other teams and provide constructive feedback on grammar and spelling in a professional manner
Highly organized with the ability to independently maintain schedules and meet deadlines
Ability to Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple issues at one time.
Ability to create and/or edit technical drawings and creating flow charts using MS Visio or similar design tools.
Ability to adapt and/or reformats existing templates, samples, or historical documentation into new deliverables
Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical and problem solving abilities
5 or more years of experience with writing, editing, and/or managing a wide variety of IT security documentation
Experience writing and editing technical documentation related to federal IT security and policy standards
