We are seeking a Technical Writer to create and maintain technical documentation for our software products and services. The technical writer will be responsible for user documentation and release notes for all HID software products, as well as writing and editorial support for the HID client organization, internal customer service teams, and other organizational teams as needed.
This position requires excellent writing and editing skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams across the organization. A willingness to dig into new software development to learn and document user workflows and processes is also required. Business analysis and software testing may also be required. This position will report to the Manager of Product Management. Position is based within our corporate offices located in Auburn, Alabama.
Prepares written documents following company guidelines and style guides for technical publications. Obtains and effectively coordinates and consolidates document reviews from subject matter experts prior to publication.
Creates software product and service documentation for end users and clients. Specific responsibilities include:
Develop and manage all product documentations requirements
Adhere to client technical publications standards
Track and fix documentation defects
Assist in the development and implementation of the user documentation strategy
Manage work plans through the entire software development process
Determines and defines content for documentation needs by conducting interviews and meeting with subject matter experts, performing online research, and reviewing existing materials.
Updates all documents as required by researching and writing enhancement topics and/or incorporate system changes. Maintains a library/repository of all current product documentation.
Reviews, edits and proof reads material written by others.
Thorough knowledge of technical writing and editing, document structures and formatting
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Advanced skills with personal computer, Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Project, Visio, and PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as other job-related document design and presentation software
Ability to work independently and successfully handle multiple tasks at one time and meet deadlines
Experience in a software development environment
Comfortable talking with clients for material review/education
Additional Knowledge & Skills
Experience in a health-care related field
HITECH, URAC and SOC knowledge is a plus
Business analysis experience
3 years of job-related experience developing and writing information for a variety of user audiences in an information technology based setting. (Time spent in pursuit of Master’s degree may be eligible for experience substitution.)
