As a member of the Office of University Relations and Strategic Communications area, the Assistant Visual Designer will aid in broadening and enhancing the image of Salve Regina University through the design and production of print and digital materials.
The Assistant Visual Designer works with all members of the University Relations and Strategic Communications staff in ensuring that the University speaks with a clear and consistent voice visually and verbally through internal and external communication pieces across all media platforms.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work in conjunction with the Senior Visual Designer and Visual Designer in the design and production of University publications and visual representation materials in print and digital media formats to ensure consistency with University standards and visual identity.
Provide service and consultation to University clients regarding design, marketability and impact on all components of print and digital communications projects, including photography, graphic elements, design, usability, production and mailing. By utilizing design fundamentals to create the concept, design and look of each project in the most creatively efficient and cost-effective means possible, the Assistant Visual Designer is responsible for consistency in all related media across print and digital formats with the University's strategic communications initiatives serving as a guide.
Typeset, design, and edit various publications for the University utilizing extensive knowledge of design elements and desktop publishing systems.
Maintain strong line-editing and copy-editing skills consistent with AP style and the University's branding, editorial and writing style guides.
In conjunction with the Director of Constituent Communications and Design, the Assistant Visual Designer will prepare bids and purchase requisitions for projects printed off-campus and facilitate production with vendors throughout the print process, including attending press checks when applicable, and track production and delivery of all jobs, whether completed on or off campus.
Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Communications and Digital Content and the Director of Brand Strategy and Deployment in developing and managing the University's overall marketing and brand strategy.
Attend weekly staff meetings and contribute to weekly status report.
Perform other duties as required by the Director of Constituent Communications and Design and the Associate Vice President, University Relations.
Bachelor's degree in related field, and at least 2 years' graphic design experience in print and digital projects.
Demonstrated expertise of design fundamentals through a creative portfolio of print and digital projects.
Expert proficiency in InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and other Macintosh-related graphic design software (a complete understanding of Mac OS is a must) in addition to Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of printing and publication processes, including bid preparation and prepress.
Knowledge of mailing procedures and specifications.
Experience with visual identity and branding preferred.
Excellent attention to detail and strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to work professionally and independently in addition to serving collaboratively as a team player.
Adaptability in a fast-paced environment demonstrating initiative, flexibility and receptiveness to constructive feedback.
Proven ability to work well under pressure and strict deadlines, often with quick turnaround time, and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and output.
Willingness to participate in professional development opportunities to hone and increase technological knowledge in order to keep abreast of industry standards and best practices.
