Purpose of this Position
The Technical Information Manager's job is to ensure that National Speed team members are empowered with comprehensive and accurate data, in order to provide an excellent customer experience first and foremost, while also increasing operational efficiency over time. The purpose of the Technical Information Manager role is to author and maintain National Speed’s Knowledgebase, put together and maintain “kits” of common work orders, as well as build on and ensure the integrity of National Speed’s increasing body of parts and labor data.
Primary Job Responsibilities and Activities
Overall, to be successful in the role, the Technical Information Manager must be capable and comfortable managing large volumes of data, while also communicating over the phone with industry participants (distributors, manufacturers, etc.) and in person with National Speed Technicians and salespeople to gather accurate information.
The Technical Information Manager is responsible for authoring and maintaining National Speed’s Knowledgebase. Housed in National Speed’s internal proprietary system (“SpeedPoint”), the Knowledgebase is essentially a service manual of work commonly performed by the National Speed team. The Knowledgebase includes step-by-step instructions for Technicians to follow and tap into, in order to get started on new jobs quickly, avoid mistakes, and complete jobs more efficiently. The Technical Information Manager should be prepared to research work ahead of time on specific vehicles and engines, and then work hand-in-hand with Technicians when the work is performed in the shop to capture instructions and images of the work as it is performed.
Secondly, the Technical Information Manager is responsible for adding to and updating National Speed’s increasing database of Kits. Also housed in SpeedPoint, Kits are essentially a pre-set menu of commonly sold jobs. Kits include combinations of parts and labor for the various vehicles National Speed modifies, allowing salespeople to put together accurate and approved on-brand quotes quickly for customers.
Thirdly, the Technical Information Manager is responsible for building on and ensuring the integrity of National Speed’s body of parts and labor data. Parts data, in particular, is a large set of information given the wide variety of vehicle types National Speed prides itself in serving and the wide array of aftermarket options available in the industry. This responsibility will include data classification for filtering and searching, working with third party data sources National Speed taps into, and sorting through data internally created on the fly for custom quotes to review and approve before the data is made available to team members.
Required Skills & Experience
Must have strong peformance automotive technical acumen. Must also be able to demonstrate strong communication skills and attention to detail.
