IBHS is seeking an experienced technical writer and editor with exceptional writing skills, as well as proven talent in crisp editing. Ideal candidates will be self-starters who are detail-oriented and passionate about writing, editing, and learning new things. One of the primary roles for this position will be to act as the communications lead for research and scientific projects. This includes developing solid relationships with IBHS’ researchers, engineers and scientists working on research reports, white papers, presentations, and other communications-related projects. Prefer candidates with experience writing scientific papers and/or academia experience.

Responsibilities and Duties
Work collaboratively with researchers, scientists, and engineers to learn why research is being conducted, what is ground breaking about the process, what the outcomes are, and what the impact will be. Assist in message development for multiple platforms, including social media.
Write and organize content for external audiences and IBHS members.
Edit content produced by researchers, scientists, and engineers, which includes research reports, white papers, journal articles, presentations, web content, social media posts, etc.
Serve as primary liaison between researchers, scientists, engineers and communicators.
Track and report progress on research/science writing and editing deliverables.
Track research work to identify emerging trends, hot topics and opportunities for communications products.
Participate in all research and science-related kick-off and planning meetings to ensure all communications needs are identified.
Assist as needed in writing and editing a variety of other materials including technical standards, fact sheets, op-eds, articles, web content, Q&As, “how-to” guides, video scripts, PowerPoint presentations, social media content and marketing pieces for different audiences.
Qualifications and Skills
Prefer a Bachelor's degree in English, Communications or other written communication context, but will consider extensive work experience in lieu of degree.
7 to 10 yrs writing/editing experience, preference given to technical report writing
Superior English language writing, editing and speaking skills.
Demonstrating superior attention to detail, accuracy and presentation of information.
Experience translating complex technical information into laymen’s terms and expressing ideas clearly.
Advanced analytical, planning, organizational, and time management skills.
Advanced Proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Innate ability to take initiative and be proactive in assigned tasks.
Open, creative mind eager to learn and contribute.
