Northeastern's Marketing department is looking for a highly collaborative Creative Director to lead our design team. The Creative Director will drive the creative vision and direct execution for the full marketing department portfolio with responsibility for the overall quality of creative work. This role combines managerial responsibility while contributing to big ideas and hands-on creative work. This role will collaborate with cross-disciplinary team members and university stakeholders to create impactful brand experiences and a scalable design system across all university assets.
Primary responsibilities include:
Manage the creative process from concept to completion, leading and directing the creative team in ideation and execution of respective initiatives
Design engaging and impactful experiences that advance the university's goals and the Northeastern brand
Ensure visual communication and brand standards are well defined and met, contributing to an evolving and scalable design system
Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams, particularly strategy, copywriting, experience design, development and project management
Translate university objectives into actionable creative strategies
Present strategies to senior management for review and approval
Review work, troubleshoot and provide feedback to creative teams
Manage the resource allocations for the creative team, escalating resource constraints and delivery risks
Identify and manage external resources to solve for in-house capability gaps
Remain actively involved in hiring and training creative staff
Manage and cultivate the career development of direct reports
Represent brand experience best practices across the university
Professional experience and skills:
Experience is a key prerequisite for a creative director position. We're not talking about a year or two in the industry for a creative director position, at least five to eight years of experience is generally required. Top candidates have a strong understanding of industry trends and creative tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite. Experience performing or managing a range of creative positions, such as graphic designer, art director and copywriter, is important. Expert knowledge of the business side of design is a major plus.
It's essential that creative directors have stellar communication, presentation, problem-solving and project-management skills, too. The best creative directors have elevated soft skills that enable them to inspire creativity and work well with different personality types all while juggling various projects.
10+ years experience in visual design, publication design, interaction design, information architecture or other related disciplines
Ability to solve complex interactions and demonstrate a high level of critical thinking skills
Well versed in Design Thinking principles and cross-platform design trends
A comprehensive portfolio that demonstrates intuitive and compelling designs
Familiarity with the UX design process and artifacts (personas, journey maps, wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, site maps, etc.)
Design-related degree from an accredited institution preferred
Self-starter with a track record of delivering quality work under deadlines
Extraordinary attention to details and craftsmanship
Natural collaborator with excellent interpersonal skills
