Franklin Pierce University invites applications for its Social Media & Emerging Technologies program. While technical fluency in computer programming and physical computing is important, we are looking for someone who also can offer students the opportunity to develop the applied technology skills necessary to produce rhetorically sound and ethically informed digital content that leads to successful use of social media in many different types of environments. Candidates must be able to continually engage with new tools and modes of expression and inspire students to do the same. We are looking for someone who will work with a team to continually re-invent the curriculum and its relationship to other majors.
The Social Media & Emerging Technologies program is a multidisciplinary concentration which fosters the creative use of new technologies for communication and expression. We focus on experimentation and production both inside and outside the classroom. Classes foster active learning and encouraging discussion of concept, content and technique. Engaging with students through project assistance and personal direction is also key.
A Ph.D. is preferred and academic/professional expertise in one or more of the following fields: communication/media arts-related field (e.g., digital media studies, visual design, gaming, social media design, web, and interactive design), Applied Information Technologies, or a related field. Candidates must have significant experience in a digital communication environment, with a strong focus on mobile app development; analytics; data visualization; creating and managing content; strategic campaign planning. Applicants must have a demonstrated proficiency in both iOs and Android app design. Experience with online course delivery is required.
Applicants who can teach classes which involve foundational computing, web technologies and digital design tools along with advanced courses will be favorably considered. Appointed faculty are expected to engage in institutional service as well as maintain a program of scholarly/creative work, proven effectiveness as an instructor at the college level, and exhibit a strong commitment to undergraduate education, learning and advising.
