The Marketing and Communications Department at Messiah College currently has an opening for the full time position of Graphic Designer. The graphic designer is responsible for providing as assigned: Graphic layout and design support, assistance with maintaining institutional visual identity standards, routine client consultations, and professional design advice to clients for their College communications intended for external audiences; design for The Bridge magazine and for other higher profile College communications; visual design support for the College Website and other digital communications; photo direction; coordination and planning of photo shoots; creative problem solving; and staying current in design trends and technology for print and digital environments.
Education and experience required: Bachelor's degree in a discipline such as graphic or visual communications; graphic, visual, multimedia, communication design; 2-4 years of print graphic design and pre-press experience in a Mac environment and at least 2 years of Web visual design education or experience; marketing and photography background a plus. Some prepress and photography experience and marketing background preferred.
Other requirements include: Professional experience working in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop in a Mac environment; InCopy preferred; technical proficiency in industry-standard hardware and software such Word, Excel, major email, internet, and file-sharing platforms; knowledge and /or some experience with Web graphics creation and standards HTML, CSS, Web and Web usability standards; knowledge of paper types, terminology, and technologies; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to present and articulate design concepts and clear creative vision to clients and colleagues; excellent time management skills; proven organizational, planning skills and flexibility; proven creativity in a professional setting; the ability to accept direction and complete assignments accurately and on time; attention to details and accuracy; the ability to work independently and also collaborate with others; team player with a positive, proactive attitude; knowledge of prepress and printing procedures and terminology; some experience in photography; videography knowledge or experience a plus; professional portfolio required.
