Data Consultants on the Advancement Business Intelligence team in Advancement Operations synthesize complex data; they develop strategic, actionable reports, dashboards and other tools to support the efforts of advancement managers & front line gift officers across Grounds, as well as other business units in University Advancement.
-using statistical software (e.g., R, SAS or SPSS)
-Cognos (Report Studio and Query Studio) a plus
-working with APIs
-working in a data warehouse environment
Preference will be given to the candidate with experience in advancement operations, business operations or fundraising analytics in a higher education setting.
The Data Consultant is innovative and proactive in reporting, analysis, and visualizations, and is responsible for the development of custom reports and dashboards; researching new and developing business intelligence (BI) technologies, tools and techniques; developing 'proof of concept' solutions to demonstrate benefits of new technologies and/or forecasting models.
Data Consultants drive the fundraising process by initiating strategy meetings with clients; providing consultation regarding fundraising and engagement data and analysis; facilitating communication between units and development officers. Data Consultants are effective communicators, not just with data, but also through verbal and written communication; they work with a broad range of people (technical & non-technical professionals of all levels). Data Consultants are adept and comfortable consulting with clients to gather project specifications, as well as sharing results or other findings to clients.

Required Minimum Level of Education: *Degree or Equivalent Experience Required
Required Specific Degree/Training: Bachelors degree in related field or equivalent experience in data analysis or relevantly similar field.

Required Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Required Specific Experience: Minimum four years of experience in research, data analysis or relevantly similar field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the minimum requirement.
Experience in data mining, data visualization, report writing / programming, statistics and predictive modeling.
Experience employing appropriate statistical methodologies for predicting behaviors and analyzing giving (or financial) data and trends.
Experience creating visualizations to illustrate descriptive statistics, populations and trends.
Preferred Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Proven experience using statistical software (e.g., R, SAS or SPSS)

Demonstrated knowledge of visual design principles
Demonstrably strong problem solving, debugging, and quality assurance skills
Knowledge and understanding of the development cycle and best practices in major gift fundraising or annual giving
Knowledge of best practices in fundraising, development research and / or prospect management
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills; ability to analyze and interpret information, interpret patterns, identify trends and make appropriate conclusions.
Strong project management and time management skills; ability to handle multiple projects with critical deadlines and changing priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with development professionals at many levels within the organization.
Ability to manage client and peer relationships in the UVA advancement community and to consult with clients about how to interpret and act upon the business intelligence provided.
Understanding of privacy and data security best practices; ability to handle sensitive information appropriately and maintain confidentiality.
Required Computer Applications: Microsoft Office (including Access, Excel, Word, Outlook)
Advanced knowledge, skill and ability working with complex databases.
