Job Description: The technical writer drives the creation of a documentation methodology and framework and maintains proper methodology for purposes of consistency and efficiency. This role prepares and/or maintains documentation pertaining to databases, programming, systems operation and user documentation. This position translates business and technical specifications into user documentation. The technical writer plans, writes and maintains systems and user support documentation efforts, including FAQs. This position is familiar with a variety of the technical concepts, practices and procedures. Maintain a continuous integration with development and design teams to facilitate documentation creation and updates. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. All work performed at the client’s site, however, telework may be available on a case-by-case basis.
Create documentation methodology, information and related frameworks.
Create document, information and system flow diagrams.
Develop and maintain user-training materials including curricula.
Develop FAQs for use on line.
Plan, develop, organize, write and edit operational procedures, guides and manuals
Research, develop and document technical design specifications and test scripts in collaboration with the Architect, Program Manager and developers
Produce electronic documentation or hard copy manuals as required
Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation, including posting and editing documents on SharePoint.
Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style of content
Manage updates and revisions to technical literature including periodic reviews for accuracy or changes
Produce high-quality documentation that is appropriate for its intended audience
Work and attend meetings with internal teams to determine product documentation requirements and context.
Document meeting decisions for incorporation in product requirements and documentation
Write easy-to-understand user interface, online help and developer guides
Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements
Work closely with stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of contract deliverables are met
Create tutorials to help end-users and technical staff use a variety of applications and systems
Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities
Develop and maintain Service Level Agreements and track related issues
Coordinate document lifecycle with stakeholders including version control, management of drafts, merging periodic revisions and publishing final releases
Assist in the production and timely delivery of monthly status/progress reports
Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Ensure all documentation complies with federal guidelines (e.g. Section 508)
Qualifications: Bachelor Degree preferred with 2-5 years directly applicable technical writing experience. Technical Capacity, proficiency with MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Visio and SharePoint as repository. MS Access a plus. Applicant should have ability to learn applications sufficient to determine flow, user issues, and completeness of documentation and to work under tight deadlines. Strong Organization Skills, Communication Proficiency, Thoroughness, Problem Solving/Analysis, Teamwork Orientation, Initiative, and Strong attention to detail. Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences that include end-users, Analysts, and Management, Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking and Section 508 adherence implementation.
Additional Desired Experience: Direct experience with Healthcare Clinical Data, Processes, and Software Systems, Federal, HHS, IHS Documentation and Templates (Business Needs Statement, Business Cases, Exhibit 300, etc.), EPLC, SLDP and CPIC and NPIRS, NDW, GDM.
