As part of a dynamic and collaborative engineering team made up of BC Hydro employees and consultants, the successful candidate will join the Site C engineering team for a 4 to 6 month rotation to help the team develop and review the specifications and other RFP documentation for the procurement of the Balance of Plant (BoP) equipment for the facility. This would be a great development opportunity for an individual to gain unique experience working on the Site C Project and continuing to build their technical skills.
Detailed duties are as follows:
Complete comprehensive reviews of the technical specifications prepared by the engineering team for BoP equipment and identify and resolve: technical inconsistencies, specification formatting/organization inconsistencies, language inconsistencies within and across specifications, and coordination issues between the specifications.
Help to ensure the technical specifications are compliant with the style guide for the technical specifications.
Participate in collaborative reviews of technical specifications with Site C design consultants, Site C Owner’s Engineering Team, BC Hydro operations & engineering SMEs, BC Hydro Principal Engineers, and Site C Legal, and help respond to and resolve comments/issues/questions identified.
Participate in procurement activities. Help the engineering team respond to and resolve comments/issues/questions identified.
Help the engineering team to incorporate the Site C User Requirements into all activities above, by reviewing the User Requirements against the specifications to confirm the intent of the User Requirements have been captured in the specs and then work collaboratively with the engineering team to resolve any issues raised in this regard.
Minimum 8 years of direct, practical, experience with this type of work is required. Individuals with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower level commensurate with their experience.
Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Superior command of Microsoft Word (including use of styles, formatting, cross references, tracked changes, etc.).
Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise, accurate, and self-consistent written technical documentation.
Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve technical inconsistencies, specification formatting/ organizational inconsistencies, language inconsistencies in technical documents, and coordinate technical information across multiple technical documents.
Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders, work collaboratively with others, and drive groups of people to collaborative resolution of issues, while resolving any conflict along the way.
Experience working with utility equipment specifications and contract processes would be a benefit.
Experience working with legal, procurement, and contracts personnel on equipment procurement would be a benefit.
Practical experience with installation, commissioning, or maintenance of BoP equipment would be a benefit.
Degree in Engineering such as Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering is preferred.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC) is preferred.
Degree or Certificate in Legal, Technical Writing, Contracts Management, Procurement or similar training from a recognized Canadian University, Technical Institute or College may also be considered.
Practical knowledge of BC Hydro’s business with regard to BoP equipment would be a benefit.
Please note this is a temporary position for approximately 4-6 months.
As part of the interview process, potential candidates will be given a specification style guide and a sample technical specification that requires updating and will be asked to update and format the specification as a means to demonstrate their technical writing skills.
A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.
