The Division of Marketing and Communications is responsible for telling the Bridgewater State University story to the institution's major audiences, including current and prospective students, faculty and staff, alumni and donors, media, regional business, non-profit and governmental institutions and leaders, and the general public. The division manages all facets of the university's communications and major communications channels, including the university website, branding, marketing, advertising, publications, media relations, major social media channels and video production. Bridgewater is a thriving university, which has undergone extraordinary growth in enrollments and programs in the past two decades. The Division of Marketing and Communications is growing and seeking staff who are creative and driven to help tell the BSU success story.
We are seeking a Web Designer to work with our Web Developers and Content team to improve functionality and look of our websites and mobile app. Primary duties include conceptualizing and implementing creative ideas for websites and implementing guidelines for new visual elements. You will maintain the web style guide and oversee continuous improvements.
Test and improve the design and usability of the website.
Establish web design guidelines, standards, and best practices.
Design visual imagery for mobile-responsive websites and mobile apps reflecting university brand and accessibility guidelines.
Work with different content management systems.
Work collaboratively with a cross-functional team of developers, content producers, video, graphic and digital specialists.
Communicate design ideas using user flows, process flows, site maps and wireframes.
Stay current with developments related to web design.
Actively supports the University's initiatives of Diversity and Social Justice through a commitment to hiring, maintaining, and promoting a diverse workforce.
Additional responsibilities as directed by the supervisor consistent with rank and position.
Bachelor degree required.
Excellent visual design skills required.
A minimum of two years professional experience designing websites.
Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, inVision and other visual design tools.
Good understanding of content management systems.
Good understanding of search engine optimization principles.
Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues.
Up-to-date knowledge of web standards, and technologies including WCAG 2.0 website accessibility.
Adaptable and willing to learn new techniques.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise initiative required.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills required.
Strong customer-orientation and ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and students required.
Font end framework experience preferred (Vue, Angular, React etc)
Drupal experience preferred.
SharePoint experience preferred.
UX/UI design experience preferred.
WCAG 2.0 web accessibility experience preferred.
Mobile app design experience preferred.
Related professional experience in a higher education setting preferred.
