The Technical Writer is an embedded resource in the Lifelong Learning Network's Information Technology Services (LLNITS) team, reporting to the Director of Business Analysis. The primary responsibilities of the role include gathering source material from Lifelong Learning Network executives and stakeholders, business analysts, software architects, developers, testers, quality assurance specialists, or other technical personnel located in Boston, at our regional campuses, and offshore; interpreting and capturing detailed descriptions, in language and visual representations, that can be absorbed easily by end user, administrative, and technical audiences; and storing draft and final communication artifacts in Northeastern University's dedicated cloud for future retrieval and consult.
In addition to strong communication skills and familiarity with contemporary digital communications processes and tools, this position requires curiosity, initiative, attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, the ability to collaborate, diligence, and patience.
A successful candidate will possess an appetite for engaging and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members who have different experiences, skills, and ways of working.
The Technical Writer may be assigned to work on projects that are new or in-progress, alone or in groups, and with quick turnaround or lengthy timelines.
The Technical Writer will:
Learn Northeastern University 2025 strategy and help ensure projects address its goals
Write and publish technical documents for end user, administrative, and technical audiences
Write and publish non-technical documents, such as user manuals
Help academic and administrative staff describe their business processes
Help record decisions and progress in stakeholder meetings led by business analysts
