The Institute for CyberScience (ICS) seeks a Technical Writer to join our communications and client engagement teams. This person will be an integral contributor to a fast-paced and growing team of specialists supported by an exciting $60 million Penn State investment in cyberscience research. Our ICS affiliated faculty and researchers form a vibrant intellectual community empowered to use the latest and most effective computational methods to make transformative discoveries for science and society. With ICS, you will have the opportunity to support this groundbreaking work. As our Technical Writer, you will: develop and implement communications strategies and campaigns designed to increase researcher proficiency with ICS resources and services; support researcher training efforts by developing materials such as handouts and presentation slides; provide grant-writing and editorial assistance to ICS-affiliated faculty; and maintain internal documentation for ICS. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred qualifications and experience include: Master's Degree or above in Rhetoric, Communications, English, or related field; teaching or training experience; experience communicating with technical disciplines in higher education; and familiarity with, or experience working with, coding and/or scripting languages. Our successful candidate will need to demonstrate: strong writing and editing skills; excellent attention to detail; proven track record of translating technical topics into content appropriate for diverse communities and audiences; knowledge of Penn State and/or Chicago editorial styles; understanding of best practices of technical communication; and the ability to work independently.
