The Senior Drupal Developer is a member of the Carlson School of Management’s Marketing & Communications team that provides strategic marketing services to all academic, research, institutional advancement, school administrative units and more, that serve audiences including prospective students, faculty, researchers, alumni and corporate partners.
Reporting to the Sr. Digital Marketing Manager, the Sr. Drupal Developer is responsible for design and development of interactive elements for use on the Carlson School website. This position will be responsible for day-to-day management of the Carlson School website on the Drupal 8 platform. This position will work closely with the school’s program offices, academic departments and centers, Information Technology, other members of the Marketing & Communications Team, and outside agencies on various web projects to continually build on and improve the performance of our site KPIs and ensure a positive user experience for prospective students.
Support and evolve web theme and tools, and documentation - 35% • Continuously adapt and evolve the Carlson School web theme and tools including content types, layouts, templates, styles, drupal module maintenance, features and functionalities. • Monitor how the theme is working on our overall system of websites, with a focus on effective web and visual design, web contributor needs, user experience, usability and accessibility. • Ensure responsive design is applied well across our sites. • Research new ideas and methods; stay aligned with best practices. • Improve the theme and suite of tools by listening to needs of digital team and people contributing content; identify and suggest solutions. • Apply new styles to our basic template Drupal site and update on existing sites; update our public-facing library of styles and content types available. • Maintain updated and accurate documentation on content update procedures for web contributors. • Troubleshoot and fix browser, coding, accessibility and other issues.
Project management and relationship management - 15% • Communicate frequently with digital team members on the needs of our web community; contribute to training development and documentation. For most of our web contributors, their web role is a small part of their overall duties. Our job is to make our system and tools easy to use and provide training as needed. • Contribute to overall team planning efforts; helping to prioritize work and provide accurate estimates on completion of work. • Provide user support and customer service, working with team members to troubleshoot issues when they arise. • Work to continuously improve and evolve how we deliver and manage our web presence and infrastructure, staying current with trends in web design and development; regularly assess processes, make recommendations to improve efficiency. • Document and test work, such as testing across multiple browsers and devices and other quality control efforts • Engage in U web/Drupal community.
Preferred Qualifications • Experience building websites with Drupal 7 & 8 • Comfortable working with browser debugging tools • Ability to understand CSS changes to have consistent style across platforms and browsers • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages • Experience with responsive theming for a CMS, especially Drupal web theming, content types, and front-end techniques including living style guides • Experience with server-side scripting languages common in web development (PHP preferred), XML, RSS feeds, social media APIs, HTTP requests, CSS pre-processors (SASS); coding websites for functionality across mobile and other devices, accessibility, usability and search optimization • Ability to convey technical concepts in a non-technical fashion
