American University is recruiting for a Designer to join the University Communications and Marketing (UCM) division. The Designer is responsible for developing creative concepts that ensure brand consistency for clients and support the strategic plan, bringing awareness and recognition to American University. The Designer will create collateral for a variety of mediums including print, website, mobile, and email. The scope of work entails research, planning, conceptual development, design, and production across digital and print communication platforms. Many projects are in direct support of the Office of the University President, Office of Development and Alumni Relations, and student recruitment,. Sample projects could include the creation of digital invitations, brochures, and special events materials. Responsibilities also include photo preparation and retouching, updating graphic files, producing digital files for publishing to targeted platforms, and archiving projects when completed.
The Designer will work collaboratively with UCM colleagues and University clients. This includes but is not limited to collaboration with the team’s senior designers, the production and traffic manager, writers, editors, photographer, videographer, and content strategist to produce a wide range of collateral to support AU’s brand strategy.
This is an interesting opportunity for someone with a balance of print and digital design experience and the ability to create art that can be applied to multiple publishing platforms. The Designer will have an opportunity to work as a creative problem solver – looking at different approaches to ideas and visual solutions. The Designer will also have an opportunity to work on some projects autonomously but also collaborate with other team, departmental, and University colleagues in the creation of materials, including projects in support of high-profile University events or initiatives.
UCM's design team upholds the university's institutional and visual identity by ensuring consistent usage of official logos, wordmarks, fonts, colors, and other assets. We provide creative talent for flagship publications such as American magazine and the Annual Report; commencement and other high-visibility event materials; marketing collateral; advertising and campaigns; video; and online communications. We collaborate with clients to create visual designs that are compelling and effective.
