The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) is in the midst of great transformation and innovation. To support its ongoing enterprise-wide technology modernization and change effort, IMRF is seeking a Documentation Specialist to create documentation and training materials that will assist employees as they learn and use new systems, technologies, and processes. The Documentation Specialist will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact by developing, organizing, reviewing, and maintaining procedures and training materials that will support IMRF long into the future.
The selected candidate must be a skilled technical writer with the ability to transform complex business processes and steps into easily understood information for IMRF staff. This person must be an effective communicator and collaborate well with employees at all levels of the organization. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience creating documentation and training materials for large-scale technology implementations.
Provide documentation and training support for the Horizon Project, IMRF’s enterprise-wide modernization effort. This includes adapting system-focused procedures to IMRF’s environment, creating supplemental job aids, and organizing information on IMRF’s employee intranet.
Collaborate with internal customers to create and maintain operational procedures, documentation, and training materials.
Review and improve existing documentation, as needed.
Own all updates to the Manual for Authorized Agents, IMRF’s guide for local administration of IMRF benefits.
Partner with internal team to maintain IMRF’s Business Continuity Manual.
Support documentation needs by department, including retirement processing procedures, new employee training materials, documentation related to legislative changes, and procurement procedures.
Maintain, update, and improve Documentation Library resource on IMRF’s employee intranet COMPASS.
Desired Experience and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in technical writing, communications, journalism, or related field strongly preferred.
Minimum of two years technical writing experience.
Exceptional writing and editing skills. Knowledge of plain language principles strongly preferred.
Experience developing documentation and training materials for large-scale technology implementations strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with html coding or intranet maintenance. Experience using a content management system strongly preferred.
Self-starter able to work independently with minimal guidance.
Ability to think critically and solve problems.
