LexisNexis Risk Solutions, a leader in data-driven risk intelligence products, is hiring a technical publications manager to lead its Technical Communication Management Group (TCMG). TCMG is a team of professional writers creating and updating hundreds of customer-facing publications each year, including API, implementation, and reference content for both FCRA and non-FCRA products. We are looking for a dynamic, driven individual to represent the team within the organization, to use analytics to justify team growth, to manage projects, and to evangelize for high-quality technical content in support of customers. TCMG is four years into the process of migrating content to DITA (GitLab and Oxygen). Deep understanding of modular content and reuse is essential, as are the powers of persuasion and negotiation. We are looking for someone to help us continue this journey and to support a busy team that is working to address the needs of our customers.
Lead a team of writers to develop and maintain the skills and knowledge required to produce large, complex documentation suites that address customers’ business needs, support industry regulatory requirements, contribute to product value, and are delivered on schedule.
Work with multiple departments to ensure team’s abilities and processes develop as needed to support future business direction and communicate that direction to the team; and to ensure requirements for team’s successful involvement with project teams are included in project plans.
Ensure internal initiatives and external customer projects are completed on time, meet or exceed standards, and are within budget; handle escalations, and provide direction to team in obtaining information needed to complete tasks.
Identify and evaluate tools, processes and metrics to enhance team efficiency and accuracy, ensure team is engaged in change process and trained appropriately for successful implementation.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse groups including: Corporate Communications, Legal, Product Management, Market Planning, Engineering, Technical Support, Marketing, and Sales to establish team direction and address customer needs and technical issues related to current and future product lines.
Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

10 +years experience in technical writing and editing expertise, competencies, knowledge, and skills.
Bachelors Degree in English, technical writing, business or related field combined with technical experience or training; or Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field combined with writing or communications experience; or equivalent full-time work experience with a minimum of 10 years in a related position. Preferred: MA/MS in related field.
5+ years experience in people management skills, including coaching, listening, collaboration, and adjusting to changing business priorities.In-depth understanding of technical writing and editing process, competencies, knowledge, and skills.
Expertise in principles of structuring information and in documentation, software development, and business processes.
Strong skills in setting, communicating, implementing and achieving business objectives and goals through the direct management of others.
Expert interviewing and independent research skills.
Ability to manage people with a range of personalities and skill levels to help them grow as writers. Including Strength to hold people accountable to processes and quality standards while working to address the needs of the business to deliver content
Strong organization/project planning, time management, change management across multiple functional groups and departments, and delegation skills involving prioritizing and reprioritizing projects and managing concurrent projects of various size, complexity and timelines.
Problem solving experience involving leading teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues; prior success extracting/translating findings into alternatives/solutions, identifying risks/impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision making.
Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills applicable to a wide audience including senior and executive management, customers, etc. including diction/terminology and presenting information in a concise and effective manner to clients, management and various departments using assorted communication mediums.
