Under the supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Associate Director supports the marketing and communication strategies and tactics of University Prep. The Associate Director is responsible for planning and content development of the school’s website and social/digital media channels and weekly school newsletters. This position is also responsible for digital analytics and in-house, small-scale visual design. The Associate Director draws on strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as digital, technical, and visual skills to communicate the mission and work of the school to diverse audiences (alumni, faculty, staff, parents/guardians, students, and the public).
The successful candidate is experienced in digital technology and analysis, a professional who has innovative ideas to improve audience engagement through digital communications. They have excellent communication skills and are able to express UPrep’s work creatively. We are seeking a strategic thinker with an in-depth understanding of how technology can help us increase brand awareness and elevate UPrep’s story.
Web and digital content planning
Plan, design, and develop an overall web and digital content strategy for UPrep that aligns with and supports the school’s mission, brand, and priority messaging for key distribution points, including the public website and blog, internal parent portal, and social and digital media channels
Conceptualize, design, author, and produce digital communications and digital media—primarily for the website and social media—taking into account event or campaign objectives, audience, budget, and timeline
Develop and maintain a social media calendar for each of UPrep’s channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)
Ensure best practices and quality standards in digital communications and media, including techniques, content, and format, both within the Marketing and Communications Office and throughout the school.
Facilitate the refresh of UPrep’s website, through a collaboration with our external vendor (FinalSite) and internal constituencies in Enrollment and Advancement, including the creation of “user stories” to help make web enhancements/fixes actionable
Develop a web site content strategy that optimizes headlines and key words to support SEO
Monitor SEO/SEM, Google Analytics metrics and social media insights to inform future content production
Analyze web traffic metrics and suggest solutions to boost web presence, such as and Google Ad Words
Social media and email communications support
Collaborate with colleagues across UPrep, including in Enrollment and Advancement, to identify new sources of content for sharing on social media
Generate, edit, publish and share engaging content daily across our social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube
When appropriate and in line with our best practices, communicate with followers, respond to queries in a timely manner and monitor constituent sentiment
Manage the production and distribution of UPrep’s weekly all-school email via Veracross by collecting content, proofreading, analyzing weekly engagement rates, enhancing the overall look and design, and seeking feedback to ensure it is meeting audience needs.
Collect data and report on impressions, engagement, pageviews, and sessions to help inform future strategy
Interpret data, analyze results and provide ongoing reports
Measure and report performance of digital content, and assess against goals
Identify trends and insights, and optimize spend and performance based on the insights
Produce small-scale visual products, in collaboration with Advancement, Enrollment, and College Admissions teams, to advertise and raise awareness of UPrep community events (business cards, banner ads, invitations)
Produce infographics and other design elements for the UPrep website, social media, and print collateral
Adhere to UPrep brand guidelines
Take and select photographs for print publications and social media channels
Develop and manage a school-wide system for photo organization and management
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in communications, or a related field
Five years of successful experience in web and digital communications roles
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Expertise in social media platforms
Experience with HTML and CSS, WordPress and content management systems (our school uses FinalSite and Veracross)
Experience with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop
Hands-on experience with SEO, web traffic metrics, and web analytics tools like Google Analytics
Strong attention to detail
Ability to balance independent work and self-management with the ability and desire to work in a collaborative environment
Ability to meet multiple deadlines
Experience working in an education setting preferred
Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty, staff, students, and their families
Ability to maintain confidential information
Flexibility and a sense of humor
