As a member of the Strategic Communications and External Affairs team, become an integrated component of the Chicago-based Information Technology department. This newly created role provides a unique opportunity to foster collaboration among different business units within the IT department and between the IT group and colleagues throughout NORC. Play an instrumental role in all internal and external IT communications, including participating in the development and launch of critical new internal service-focused messaging, creating new marketing materials, revamping the IT department’s intranet presence, identifying and addressing opportunities to enhance communications and knowledge sharing among all IT staff, and more. Energy and enthusiasm for communicating what makes NORC IT a best-in-class team will be important.
Take responsibility for leading, planning, writing, implementing, and analyzing external and internal IT communications initiatives; collaborating with senior IT leaders and the internal communications team to create and execute an internal IT communications strategy, including creating, curating, and posting appropriate dynamic content on the company’s intranet; working with senior IT staff to identify, craft, and post appropriate content on the company’s website; partnering with HR, IT, and communications to craft compelling job postings; serving as a communications resource for all members of the IT staff.

Strategic Communications and External Affairs supports the entire NORC organization with expertise in corporate communications and creative services, external affairs, internal communications, and project-level communications.
We help promote NORC to the public: we work with members of the media to publicize our research projects and our expertise; we support external events where NORC experts present or speak; we publish NORC’s annual report; we maintain the external NORC website, www.norc.org; and we manage NORC’s social media presence on Facebook and Twitter.
NORC's Information Technology department enables the organization’s core research mission by providing services, systems, and expertise to meet the organization’s enterprise-wide technology needs. The department’s teams’ work encompasses technical support, end-user computing, technical solution design, technical strategy, compliance and information security, survey solutions, cloud solutions, project management, and more.
Create, manage, and maintain IT content, such as internal resource repositories, department page, etc. for all aspects of the department on the company intranet (SharePoint) to raise profile of and market the department’s offerings, and make it easier for staff to find what they need/want
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and content producers throughout IT to create original content and edit existing content to strengthen the department’s brand positioning both within NORC and externally
Identify target audiences and develop messaging strategies to effectively engage appropriate stakeholders. Enhance messaging and engage target audiences that you then share through appropriate channels (intranet, emails, website, presentations, etc.)
Coordinate with writers, producers, and other content contributors to ensure consistency in style, tone, and quality, and provide system training as necessary
Collaborate with IT and HR colleagues and departments, as well as the HR communications associate to create, support and/or execute targeted recruitment strategies
Work closely with communications colleagues and stakeholders throughout the organization as needed and appropriate
Develop and apply metrics to measure success of IT communications campaigns
Perform other duties as assigned

Bachelor's Degree or commensurate experience in the field is preferred
At least 5 years of experience with technical communications, or in technology journalism
Experience working effectively as a project manager
Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
Commitment to and experience with translating technical language and concepts into accessible forms (including effective and engaging visualizations) for all kinds of audiences
Proficient in managing multiple priorities, maintaining high work quality/strong results
Strong attention to detail especially as it relates to the design and formatting aspects of representing NORC consistently
Excitement towards working in collaboration with teams, taking on leadership roles as appropriate
Proven ability to work effectively with multiple departments, stakeholders, and internal clients
Comfort and ability to work with multiple layers of the organization, including C-level executives
