CNR seeks a motivated, creative, and experienced communications professional to help tell our story and extend our reach to a diverse set of audiences.
Reporting to the Director of Communications in the College of the Natural Resources, this position involves development and execution of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary communications program; involves work in two or more communications disciplines or work not otherwise covered in other communications job families. The incumbent will create communications content that aligns with the College’s communication strategies and targets key audiences including prospective and current undergraduate and graduate students, donors, alumni, faculty, potential new staff and faculty hires. Through print, video, web, multimedia and social media channels, the incumbent will clearly articulate college achievements, mission, and vision. The incumbent will collaborate with staff and faculty in departments to ensure effective and modern communications coming from (and about) each department.
Responsibilities include: •Works with management and clients to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communications plans and/or projects. Collaborates with communications and web professionals in college departments on content creation, and on fostering a community of practice to effectively leverage communications assets throughout the college. •In collaboration with the Director of Communications, creates communications content fulfilling the comprehensive communications plan, including written, visual, and electronic communications. Promotes created content through social media channels, campus affiliates, and members of the press. •Advises and consults with departmental/college administration regarding all aspects of communications including developing strong communications strategies that effectively deliver the desired message, policy interpretation, and problem resolution. Creates communications pieces about or to be used by departments. •Ensures production of high quality products that effectively deliver the desired message within budget and time constraints. •Identifies specific communications needs and develops the content and process for organizational improvements.•A minimum of 3 years of experience in public relations, journalism, media relations or closely related professional communication role with progressive independence. •A portfolio of successful communication products that demonstrate ability to translate organization branding and priorities into structured, strategically aligned content. Proven ability to think creatively and propose bold ideas. Ability to manage competing demands and interests and maintain focus. •Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications. •Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively work with technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including visual design concepts, various media, digital and web content, and applications. •Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education. •Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans. •Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to target and/or broad general audiences. •Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills. •Knowledge of campus protocols and channels for communication internally and externally. •Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
