Reporting to the Senior Manager of Quality Assurance the Technical Writer is responsible for contributing to delivering high quality documentation to our end users. This position is critical to the company’s release cycle, and requires excellent technical writing skills, passion for technology, organizational skills, and experience with or a good understanding of technical writing tools. This is an on-site position and not a remote opportunity.
Plan, write, edit, and maintain technical documents, such as user manuals and on-line web help.
Maintain, update and follow style guide and documentation processes and standards with minimal guidance.
Determine the needs of users of technical documentation.
Understands different user levels, identifies the appropriate audience and context for content, and writes to the appropriate level and audience.
Organize technical content and ensure standardization and consistency between documents.
Work directly with software developers and subject matter experts to confirm software behavior, install and use new products and enhancements and product high quality documentation.
Follow up on issues, concerns, requests and feedback.
Keep team members and management well informed of various assignments status.
Assist team members to meet tight deadlines.
Other tasks as directed.
College degree in Technical Writing is required; a technical writing certificate is not an acceptable alternative to a college degree;
3-5 years of experience (non-internship) is required;
Experience with related tools: MadCap Flare (required), MS Office, Visio, JIRA, Perforce, Graphics Design (Photoshop, Gimp, Paint), FrameMaker.
Experience with Telecommunications and Unified Communications software is a plus.
Experience with quality assurance, technical support, or any activity requiring significant technical skills and understanding of technology is a plus.
Experience working in an Agile/SCRUM environment.
Ability to organize priorities and tasks and manage time effectively.
Ability write in accordance with current technical writing principles.
Ability to understand different points of view, mediate such views and drive to a solution that satisfies all parties.
Ability to balance multiple concurrent projects.
Fluent in English, verbal and written;
Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
