UW Advancement, Information Management has an outstanding opportunity for a Database Analyst.
The Database Analyst is responsible for designing and maintaining complex data structures (e.g. warehouses, cubes, data marts) in a Microsoft SQL Server environment with a strong emphasis on T-SQL development. These data structures drive reporting solutions and provide the necessary infrastructure to support data-driven strategic and tactical decisions for University Advancement. Reporting to the Associate Director for Reporting, the Database Analyst works in collaboration with the Advancement Information Management team, central UW Information Technology partners and personnel across campus to develop accurate and efficient data solutions that support University Advancement initiatives.
This position plays a key role in providing information not just to UW Advancement, but to academic and administrative clients across campus. The Database Analyst is responsible for assessing the information needs of every unit, translating business language from varied school and college Advancement units into uniform database solutions, and applying business standards beyond what may be articulated in client specifications in order to ensure accuracy and consistency across platforms. Requests come from stakeholders at all levels, from support staff to the Office of the President.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES Programming Design, develop, test, and optimize database solutions based on client-specifications. oCreate custom database extracts in SQL Server oCreate custom Tableau Data Extract Files oMonitor and manage replication of data across multiple assets
Strategy Development Analyze and identify opportunities to expand and improve data processes in support of long-range automated and self-service information needs. Identify opportunities to integrate existing suite of tools (Tableau, online self-service reporting, Michelangelo, Advance, Data Warehouse) to better meet information needs. In partnership with Reporting and Data Management colleagues, identify new sources of data both internal and external to the UW, and develop processes to facilitate efficient data integration. Continuously evaluate data management processes for improvement and efficiencies.
Documentation Document database and extract schema, field definitions, and data mappings across systems. Maintain comprehensive data asset inventory, including source and provenance metadata, security and access restrictions, and maintenance and retention requirements.
Relationship Management Develop client relationships across campus. Educate users on reporting tools and data usage best practices. Advise clients on reporting standards. Consult with stakeholders to help define functional requirements for major information initiatives.
Other duties oProvide consultation and support for data modeling and analytics. oAdvise and inform user experience development. oSupport ad-hoc reporting as needed.

REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree and 2 years of progressively responsible experience in a database reporting environment or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for degree.
Strong general RDBMS experience, Advanced SQL Server skills should include: Designing, developing, testing, and supporting mid-to-large scale databases. Expertise in creating all key database objects: Tables, Views, Triggers, Indices, Stored Procedures, User Defined Functions, Dynamic SQL. In-depth knowledge of development, testing, and optimization of T-SQL code with tools included in SQL Server, along with other third-party tools (e.g. Oracle, MS Access, Tableau, Power BI).
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues.
Familiarity with enterprise data warehouse concepts and standards preferred.
Familiarity with the C# or other object-oriented programming languages.
Familiarity with project management and source control software.
Proficiency using PC computers. Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office and Power BI suite.
Experience with dashboard visualization design in Tableau or similar business intelligence software.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with data modeling and analytics
Experience with taxonomy/ontology structures
Experience with report design visualization and wire framing tools
Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles
Knowledge of UW Advancement policies and procedures, including use of the development database software ADVANCE
