This position is responsible for upholding Vanderbilt brand standards while creating effective, dynamic and thorough visual designs. This position will partner with writers, designers, data specialists, and executives in the development of visual designs to be used across a broad range of outputs (screen or print). He/she must have the ability to communicate complicated information and dense data effectively with the use of animation and transitions, as well as the creation of easy-to-understand charts, graphs and diagrams, graphics and websites pages.
The department of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Vanderbilt University in securing the resources, both human and financial, that are required to achieve its mission and goals. DAR is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals and organizations whose charitable objectives are consistent with those of Vanderbilt's teaching and research programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conceive and produce visually engaging and data-centered designs for use across platforms (presentation, web, print, social) and across the university.
Create images, charts and infographics which effectively communicate key messages and can be incorporated into digital presentations, print and web projects.
Present visual concepts and ideas in an organized, effective and thoughtful way.
Collaboratively create, coordinate, update, and maintain content for DAR websites, print pieces, social media channels, email marketing, and other digital communication platforms and programs.
Partner with colleagues including DAR's senior management team, development teams, DAR's Information Management and Campaign Communications teams in order to render university priorities and progress, particularly around the campaign and other key initiatives, into final presentations.
Collaborate in the development and implementation of digital communication strategies for all campaign communications projects and DAR initiatives.
Ensure consistency across all platforms and compliance with Vanderbilt's brand guidelines, design, and content standards.
Participate in meetings and stay abreast of changing regulations, procedures, innovations, trends and emerging technologies pertaining to the field of digital communications and design; communicate business implications of new regulations and standards.
Act as liaison with DAR departments, providing consultation and subject matter expertise.
Provide technical and functional direction and training to assigned professional, technical and contract staff as required.
Work cooperatively with Development and Alumni Relations colleagues
Maintain strong and effective relationships with Vanderbilt faculty and staff external to DAR
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent, is necessary
3 years of relevant experience, or the equivalent, is necessary
Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft PowerPoint, motion graphics; knowledge of other Microsoft Office products; CSS and HTML preferred
Significant experience in visual design including presentation, digital and graphic arts
Strong portfolio showcasing high-end presentation design skills (i.e. animation, builds, dynamic charts and diagrams) and clean design aesthetic
Capacity to understand complex sets of data and tailor visual design to meet specific audience expectations
Professional demeanor with the ability to effectively consult with executive- and senior-level clients when developing presentations
Self-starter with the ability to work independently and within team construct
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines efficiently in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Higher education industry knowledge and experience a plus
