The Media School at Indiana University is built on a decades-long tradition of journalism, film, media, and communication at one of the nation's premier public universities. This position is responsible for assisting with the research, formulation and administration of branding and marketing strategies for The Media School, with an emphasis on creating marketing plans and designing materials that support student recruitment, internal programming and the promotion of faculty research and creative activity. The incumbent also is responsible for creating marketing plans and materials for affiliates and partners of the school. This position reports to the director of communications and media relations, and supervises student designers employed by the communications office.
Bachelor's degree in Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Visual Journalism, Marketing, Media or a related field and three years of direct hands-on experience in graphic design within the context of a marketing or advertising organization.
Strong background in graphic design for web and print. Knowledge of user-centered design and usability principles. Expertise in developing and implementing creative marketing concepts. Deep understanding of visual design principles and the ability to implement these principles in projects. Experience with concept development, layout composition, color theory and typography, and knowledge of design trends in the industry. Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite. Direct desktop publishing experience and experience working directly with printers and publishers. Experience in brand strategy and implementation. Strong client presentation and communication skills including ability to interact with faculty, staff, students, and vendors. Ability to perform accurate, detailed work. Ability to exercise flexibility and to change priorities as project scope changes. Ability to perform multiple, concurrent tasks and work on deadline.
Proficiency in Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe After Effects. Working knowledge of social media platforms. Project management experience. Familiarity with web content management systems and web development tools. Familiarity with Indiana University or comparable institution.
