The Institute for Modeling and Managing Complicated Systems (momacs) seeks a Community Engagement Liaison (CEL) to organize and plan events; grow a community of researchers, practitioners and users; and communicate outcomes of the Institute. At momacs, computing and information technologies help humans to gather data and assemble and test models of unimaginable scale and fidelity, far exceeding anything that can be done by humans working alone. Momacs fosters collaboration among computational and domain experts and intelligent machines, pushing the boundaries of systems science and technology with each new project.
The CEL will be responsible for an annual conference, Modeling the World's Systems (MWS), and other internal and external events and meetings for momacs. In this role, the CEL will grow and nourish a community that advances and uses modeling and management technologies and science. Additionally, the CEL will produce and edit the momacs magazine and other media to inform the community about the Institute's outcomes. Primary duties include event and meeting planning; building and coordinating a network of researchers, partners and affiliates; editing the Institute's magazine; representing the Institute at external events; and, raising funds to support MWS, the magazine, and other initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have experience in planning and conducting events and meetings; coordination of a scientific community; fund raising; writing and editing articles and other content for a range of media platforms; and, conveying ideas through writing and visual design. Masters degree preferred; Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and readiness to learn new technologies. Able to carry out responsibilities independently while collaborating in a teamwork environment. Able to coordinate multiple activities and responsibilities to manage time and tasks efficiently.
