Who You Are
TSC is seeking a Specialist Technical Writer with a background writing and editing a variety of technical manuals to S1000D specification. The Specialist Technical Writer role is hands-on and interacts with Engineering and Manufacturing personnel to create documentation for custom-built aircraft.
The position is responsible for writing a variety of technical manuals including AMMs, CMMs, IPDs, SBs, and OIs, and collaborating on training publications and other documents. In addition, the Specialist Technical Writer will:
Research technical data necessary to create new manuals or modify existing manuals
Write accurate documents that comply with the department's style guide, business rules and S1000D guidelines
Select drawings, sketches diagrams and charts and oversee the preparation of illustrations
Review and rework any discrepancies related to various aircraft/spacecraft systems
Collaborate with the Technical Editor and other Technical Writers to develop procedures and methods of writing that reflect best industry practices
Collaborate with end users and product managers to ensure accuracy, clarity and quality, and that documentation meets requirements
Become an SME on aircraft systems by interviewing product Engineers, observing performance of production methods, and referring to Engineering drawings and specifications, and illustrations
Perform quality review of publications
Solicit and provide feedback for improving documentation and writing processes
Perform validation and verification prior to outputting documents for delivery
Deliver publications in IETP format
Maintain the department’s IETP system
Help maintain the CSDB
Provide regular updates to management
What you bring
College degree with emphasis on technical applications, or equivalent training and experience
Minimum of seven years of experience writing and editing aerospace publications, with a proven track record of success
Strong knowledge ATA 100, iSpec 2200 and S1000D documentation standards
Experience with HTML, SGML and XML tools such as R4i and Arbortext
Knowledge of POHs, SBs, GOMs, and all types of maintenance manuals
Experience with aerospace operations, pilot and maintenance processes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong computer skills including Adobe Acrobat and MS Office suite
Strong organizational skills
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Attention to detail
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Strong grasp of language, including nuance and tone
Self-discipline, self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision
