The Department of Psychiatry within the University of Michigan Medical School is seeking a Multimedia Designer to join the TRAILS Program (Transforming Research into Action to Improve the Lives of Students).
The mission of TRAILS (https://trailstowellness.org/) is to provide access to evidence-based mental health services for all students in schools. TRAILS partners with a wide variety of community stakeholders throughout Michigan to build capacity within K-12 schools so that their students affected by mental illnesses and mental health challenges are best supported. TRAILS provides clinical resources, training, and implementation support to school and community mental health professionals with the aim of improving student health and social and educational outcomes, as well as, promoting health and healthcare equity. TRAILS has a particular focus with partnering with under-resourced communities with elevated Medicaid enrollment. We partner with Intermediate School Districts (ISDs) across the state of Michigan, with our largest collaboration occurring with the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
The Multimedia Designer will design and develop strategic resources, materials, and communications (e.g., print, web, multimedia) that visually and contextually communicate the TRAILS 3-Tiered Model. S/he will create and present original concepts and designs for high-end print and multimedia including, but not limited to, booklets, case studies, annual and quarterly reports, brochures, websites, and presentations. S/he will assess the communication needs and make appropriate recommendations to the Communications Specialist based on overall communications strategies. The Multimedia Designer will work with a team of project managers, web developers, and TRAILS leads on several interconnecting initiatives. The work requires invention, imagination, originality, and talent in a recognized field of artistic or creative endeavor. Primary activities involve a high degree of creativity with broad leeway to develop an original work product. This position will report to the TRAILS Manager.

Design and develop strategic resources, materials, and communications (e.g., print, web, multimedia) that visually and contextually communicate the TRAILS 3-Tiered Model
Design art that expresses a range of physical and cognitive abilities and emotion
Illustrate visuals to clarify and enhance ideas
Utilize and maintain a style guide with typography, color, and repeated graphic elements
Operate within a project management system (e.g., Trello, AirTable) to gain feedback from the different teams and iterate on drafts and ideas
Apply design skills in product, interaction, and visual design to help create and build new features
Work within a tight-knit team to rapidly produce a multitude of ideas
Seek out creative, design-led solutions to challenging problems
Visualize and execute on a project from concept to product completion
Supply visual design aspects
Develop user flows, journey maps, wireframes and other assets to help facilitate the design process
Bachelor’s degree in digital media production or closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with graphic design software applications
Ability to work well in a diverse and collaborative environment
Strong organizational and problem solving abilities
Excellent communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within deadlines and competing priorities with strong attention to detail
Perform work that require invention, imagination, and originality
Bachelor’s degree or higher degree with 1-year experience in digital media production or closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience working in roles supporting faculty
Demonstrated experience of work that requires a high degree of creativity to develop an original work product
This is not a remote position, however, due to COVID-19, the responsibilities of this role will be performed remotely until notified.

The salary for this position will be based upon the selected candidate’s education and experience.
