The Enterprise Network group within ITS designs, implements and manages UC San Diego's networks focusing on wired/wireless data network operations, network architecture, installation and repair, voice and video, outside plant management, and telecom planning. The group includes Data Center Operations, Audio Visual Design and Installation, Media Event Services and Classroom Support which provides services for the UCSD campus, Scripps Institute of Oceanography and medical facilities.
Under limited supervision, incumbent will provide a Sunday through Thursday 11:30 PM to 7:30 AM shift of support to operate and monitor all installed computer systems (Mainframe, Open Systems, Network, Peripherals and Monitoring Systems) in accordance with established procedures, policies and production schedules. Identify and assist in problem determination of hardware, systems software, and applications software failures and malfunctions.
The primary responsibility of the System Support Specialist, is to proactively monitor and resolve or escalate application, system, and network incidents affecting the data center and campus and ensure maximum availability and performance. The position will perform these tasks using various standard management tools, internal ticketing systems, and monitoring consoles.
Responsibilities: Operate and monitor Mainframe, Open Systems, Network System, Peripherals and Monitoring Systems. Proactively monitor and resolve or escalate application, system, and network incidents affecting the data center and campus and ensure maximum availability and performance.Perform Initial Program Load (IPL), Capacity on Demand (CoD), Capacity Back-up (CBU) and Power-on-Reset (POR). Use various standard management tools, internal ticketing systems, and monitoring consoles.
Employee must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Must be able to work shifts in a 24x7 environment.
Must be willing to work a non-standard work week in response to facility needs. This will include weekends and holidays.
Knowledge of IBM Z/OS computer system operations including but not limited to Job Control Language and skill in using IBM Z/OS job entry sub-system and operating systems commands
