THESCHOOL OF FINEANDPERFORMINGARTS (SFPA), a unit of the Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University, announces an opening for a full-time, tenure track appointment in Game & Interactive Media Design at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 1, 2021 on the University's Lawrenceville campus.
The B.A. in Game and Interactive Media Design program, now in its second year, enrolls over 50 majors. A significant hallmark of the curriculum is the interdisciplinary connection with several other departments. Students work in two labs created in summer 2019 for this and other design programs. The synergy between Game and Communications, in particular, offers wide opportunities for collaboration, entrepreneurial conversations, and team approaches to the industry.
The successful candidate will:
help guide the evolution and continued curricular development of this new, multidisciplinary program
teach courses in their area of specialty, as well as introductory survey and analysis courses that cover the breadth of game production, game culture and interactive media design
recruit a diverse cohort of students through official University events, off-campus visits to regional schools, and other activities
support the program and the department through membership on committees, working groups, student advising and mentoring, and marketing of the program
engage in ongoing creative or scholarly work, which can include traditional academic publications or a portfolio of creative work
establish connections between the University and the industry to facilitate student internships, guest visits to campus, and professional instructors to help deliver our courses
SFPA is one of four units of the Westminster College of the Arts, comprised additionally of Westminster Choir College, Westminster Conservatory, and Westminster Continuing Education. The successful candidate will hold, at minimum, a Master's Degree with experience in the field, though a Master of Fine Arts or Doctorate is preferred.
Required credentials include specialization in game design or a closely related field, earned terminal degree appropriate for their specialty (MFA or PhD or MA with field experience), a portfolio of work indicative of an understanding of game design or interactive media, and a commitment to student-centered pedagogical techniques, particularly those that address the needs of a diverse student population.
Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
Preferred credentials include collegiate-level teaching experience in game design; ability to collaborate successfully with professionals in other departments, fields and organizations; established reputation in creating interactive designs or digital game design; demonstrated success with engaging and effective remote instruction; and an emerging record of progressive and innovative scholarship or creative activity. Collegiate teaching experience in game design is preferred. Field experience or a secondary interest in 3D modelling, visual design or real-time interactive media is highly desired.
