Requisition Number: 21A316026 Location: Lawrenceville Position Overview: THE SCHOOL OF FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS (SFPA), a unit of the Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University, announces an opening for a full-time, tenure track appointment in Game & Interactive Media Design at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 1, 2021 on the University's Lawrenceville campus. The B.A. in Game and Interactive Media Design program, now in its second year, enrolls over 50 majors. A significant hallmark of the curriculum is the interdisciplinary connection with several other departments. Students work in two labs created in summer 2019 for this and other design programs. The synergy between Game and Communications, in particular, offers wide opportunities for collaboration, entrepreneurial conversations, and team approaches to the industry. The successful candidate will: SFPA is one of four units of the Westminster College of the Arts, comprised additionally of Westminster Choir College, Westminster Conservatory, and Westminster Continuing Education. SFPA offers undergraduate degrees in arts entertainment and industries management, dance, dance science, game and interactive media design, musical theatre, popular music, and theatre. If offers the M.A. in Arts Management and Executive Leadership and provides content specific coursework for the M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Dance/Movement Therapy specialization. The School collaborates with other departments and colleges of Rider University in support of the curriculum, performances, and productions. Position Requirements: The successful candidate will hold, at minimum, a Master's Degree with experience in the field, though a Master of Fine Arts or Doctorate is preferred. Required credentials include specialization in game design or a closely related field, earned terminal degree appropriate for their specialty (MFA or PhD or MA with field experience), a portfolio of work indicative of an understanding of game design or interactive media, and a commitment to student-centered pedagogical techniques, particularly those that address the needs of a diverse student population. Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience: Preferred credentials include collegiate-level teaching experience in game design; ability to collaborate successfully with professionals in other departments, fields and organizations; established reputation in creating interactive designs or digital game design; demonstrated success with engaging and effective remote instruction; and an emerging record of progressive and innovative scholarship or creative activity. Collegiate teaching experience in game design is preferred. Field experience or a secondary interest in 3D modelling, visual design or real-time interactive media is highly desired.
