Senior Digital Designer - Communications & Marketing - (21001221)
The Office of Communications and Marketing has overall responsibility for marketing and brand management, public relations and editorial services producing various print and digital publications and communications for the University. The office optimizes the coordination of strategies and programs for these areas.
The Senior Digital Designer serves a key role on the Creative Services team by partnering with marketing and communications colleagues at the university to create innovative digital designs across channels. The position develops digital experiences in support of communications and marketing campaigns for brand awareness, fundraising and alumni engagement, and enrollment, as well as the university's internal digital communications needs.
Essential functions include:
Conceptualize, develop, and execute large-scale digital design projects, including websites, interactive microsites, landing pages, emails, e-newsletters, and any and all kinds of digital experiences
Design with an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of the underlying technology being used
Design strategically with an eye to future states, such as:
Changes in ownership
e.g., for projects that may move from one group to another or from one hosting platform to another or need to be managed or maintained by staff at different technical skill levels)
Future technology investments
e.g., personalization and automation
Design for responsive platforms, including desktop, tablets, and a wide range of mobile experiences
Include future states for each of these mediums, and be ready to evolve as code and platform expectations change
Serve as the department's UX subject matter expert across email, web, and other digital projects as needed
Work closely with the team to build engaging, elegant, and intuitive user experiences
Ensure we follow UX best practices in developing solutions to design challenges and provide expertise in meetings with university colleagues and business partners
Stay current with and apply accessibility best practices throughout the university's digital landscape
Keep up to date on trends and seek professional development opportunities to stay abreast of advances in the field and industry best-practices
Project Management and Communication:
Respond in a timely manner to requests from university colleagues and propose solutions and/or referrals as needed
Meet with business partners to determine their needs and help develop feasible strategies and solutions
Work closely with UCM colleagues to ensure projects are delivered on-time and within budget
Proactively communicate project status or delays to the project leads
Knowledge and experience as typically acquired through completion of a MA in any field with a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or a BS/BA in field with a minimum of 8 years of related experience
An available online portfolio
Exceptional skill in visual design, typography and user experience
Knowledgeable in CSS and HTML
Proficiency with Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Sketch, Omnigraffle, or other visual design and prototyping tools
Resourceful, creative problem solver with strong attention to detail
Ability to create wireframes and visual design comps
Experience in email design
Understands cross-platform browser testing, mobile design, and web standards
Passionate about UI/UX trends and technology
Comfortable leading large-scale projects and website designs and redesigns
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to successfully manage projects and experience working with clients
Must have track record in handling multiple tasks and projects in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with continuous project stream
Strong written and verbal communications skills, project management, and organizational skills
Creative, flexible, organized and positive approach to fit in with a team that strives for high quality, continuous improvement, excellent customer service and an enjoyable and collegial work environment
Applies knowledge and ensures compliance with university and industry standards for security, privacy, and accessibility
Higher education experience is a plus
