Overview: Management Science Associates, Inc. The MSA IT/OPS division has been offering data and insights solutions to the Consumer Package Goods industry since the early 1980s. We are seeking a content expert to join our team.
The Software Instructional Designer/Content Creator will create online help pages and other rich, end user collateral for our software products. Are you an outstanding writer/producer who excels at making complex software seem simple using various media, methods, formats and tools? If so, this position will provide you the opportunity to drive user education strategy and be the voice of the customer; work cross-functionally with product management, product engineering and others to develop application support content based on user feedback, analytics, product requirements, and UX best practices; develop innovative ways to educate and support end users, ensuring they get the most out of our products; and create user experiences that are educational, helpful, and delightful.
Create visually appealing, compelling and instructive software documentation targeted to end users, using rich media and other context-appropriate means
Develop and drive user education strategy for application documentation
Work closely with the product management and agile development team in order to document changes over time/releases as well as create and/or update end user documentation
Analyze usage and make content improvements based on user feedback
Participate in user research and develop content based on UX/UCD best practices
Gathers topic information, prepares written text and coordinates layout and publication specifications, incorporating work produced by other technical writers or designers
Requires a four-year degree in English, Journalism or a related field, or equivalent training/experience
Minimum two years of related work experience in technology, journalism, education, support operations, and/or consulting
Ability to translate complex technical ideas into simple, easy to understand content for end users
Experience creating inspiring, value-oriented, end user copy
Must demonstrate ability to learn how to produce technical publications and to express technical IT concepts in language accessible to non-technical readers
Experience writing and editing online product tutorials, user on-boarding, online user manuals, product on-boarding flows and Web content
Experience writing for mobile-first platforms, products or websites and a strong understanding of user experience principles
Skills with various graphics and video software (Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, Camtasia)
Working knowledge of technical software for publishing online (e.g. Content Management System or online help system)
Experience working in an agile development environment
Experience using the MS Office Product Suite; Camtasia or Adobe Captivate; ScreenSteps, MadCap Flare, InDesign or other documentation software
Working knowledge of SharePoint, administration and support.
Ability to work independently with little supervision and handle multiple assignments simultaneously
