Barings’ Global Technology and Operations group is seeking an Analyst or Associate Director to join its Visualization team. This position will be located in the Charlotte, NC office. A member of this team will be an integral part of a fast-paced environment where they will create data visualizations, promote design best practices, and develop Power Platform solutions, including Power BI reports, Power Automate Flows, and Power Apps. In order to accomplish this, the candidate will need to synthesize financial knowledge with analytical, technical, and design skills to deliver creative visual solutions. The ideal candidate has a proven understanding of design, information visualization, and business intelligence, and desires to be a key member of a collaborative, diverse team.
This role’s focus will be split approximately into four areas of focus: Business Intelligence Data Automation & Engineering; Research; Visualization Design & Development; User-Enablement & Administration
Business Intelligence Automation & Engineering
Partner with Enterprise Data Engineers to design queries and model tabular datasets for Power BI Premium
Advise Enterprise Architects on best practices for visualization
Review existing change management standards for BI datasets and advise on policy changes
Participate in data certification and attestation process
Understand Enterprise metadata, data lineage, and sourcing procedures
Create Automations to help reduce manual intervention and reduce enterprise risk
User-Enablement & Administration
Foster relationships with internal business and technology partners
Advocate use of BI + visualization tools and demonstrate their value to drive adoption
Champion our team as a Center of Excellence for information design and data visualization.
Lead info design and visualization workshops for internal partners and clients.
Serve as Assistant Global Power Platform Administrator, managing a Power BI Premium Capacity
Visualization Design & Development:
Partner with business and technology to understand visualization needs. Ask questions to determine appropriate platform, translate requirements into wireframes/storyboards, and make design recommendations.
Advocate for automation of manual tasks and challenge status quo.
Create Enterprise Power BI dashboards and reports.
Ensure data visualizations align to Barings brand, UX, and design standards.
Support Power BI reports, including troubleshooting data issues, report syntax, and design.
Research business intelligence, data & information visualization, and design best practices; prepare white papers and presentations to summarize research
Identify new technologies to stay on the cutting edge of information design and data visualization; make recommendations for adoption.
Conceptualize, pitch, develop, and deliver research-inspired projects—both individual and team-based—to drive innovation. You will have the opportunity to lead research projects utilizing cutting-edge technologies. This includes idea generation, proof of concept design/development, demonstration of value, analysis of lessons learned, and recommendations for adoption.
Bachelor’s degree. A major in design, engineering, business, finance, data analytics, data science, statistics, mathematics, and/or computer science preferred, but not required with demonstrated experience in field.
1–3 years of hands-on tabular data modeling (SSAS, AAS, or PBI Premium) and relational / non-relational databases.
1–3 years full-time Microsoft Power BI, as a data engineer, visualization developer, and Power BI service administrator.
Advanced understanding of DAX: Calculated Columns, Measures, Formulas, Filters, and Contexts
Advanced understanding of Power Query
Skilled in information visualization and a design discipline such as: graphic, industrial, interactive, service, UX, and/or visual. Understanding of Gestalt design principles is a plus (proximity, similarity, etc.)
Demonstrable experience working with cloud data and architecture, preferably Microsoft Azure

SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), Azure Analysis Services (AAS), or Power BI Premium Datasets for Tabular modeling
Data Analysis Expressions (DAX)
R or Python
PowerPoint, Keynote, or other Presentation Tools
Azure services such as Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Cosmos DB, or comparable experience with similar AWS services
Modern web technologies & visualization libraries, including React, D3.js, Node.js
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and cartography tools like Mapbox, Leaflet, OpenStreetMap, R Leaflet, QGIS and/or ArcGIS
