The Technical Writer will develop a broad portfolio of both internal documents (e.g. procedures, work instructions, engineering reports) and external publications (e.g. user manuals, spec sheets, proposals) that meet rigorous company standards. These work products must enable key business functions and be easy to use by the target audience. The candidate must have a proven ability to understand and work with complex subject matter as described by customers, product-line managers, scientific, and engineering staff. Due to export restrictions, the candidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Work with marketing, sales, and engineering teams to author product user manuals, specification sheets, certificates, quick-start guides, and other customer-facing publications.
Using input from technicians and engineers, create and revise work instructions for the manufacture and service of scientific instrumentation and industrial systems.
Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product line and the documentation requirements.
Produce high-quality documentation that meets industry standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.
Develop content in multiple forms of media for maximum impact, with a consistent and cohesive voice across all documentation.
Create scripts for training videos and develop content for webinars or other interactive events.
Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
Meet deadlines, sustain superior personal task management, and deliver consistent high performance.
Occasionally travel to customer sites for marketing discussions, project reviews, system integration and test, and/or end user training.
2+ years of industry experience as a technical writer.
Previous experience writing instructions/ procedural materials for multiple audiences.
Adept at collaboration with diverse technical contributors to extract relevant subject matter and distill into efficient and practical working documents.
Capable to deliver high quality documentation, paying attention to accuracy, clarity, and impact.
Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures.
High proficiency with Microsoft Office and other editing and publishing applications.
Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, with an eye for prioritization.
Superior oral and written English communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, communications, journalism, or a closely related field. Alternatively, this requirement may be fulfilled by equivalent work experience.
Formal training or certification in technical communications is desired.
