The School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) and the School of Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE) are each seeking a Technical Writing Evaluator. These are part-time (.50 FTE), 9-month professional faculty positions.
The purpose of this position is to grade the quality of technical writing of student-written reports in writing intensive courses or courses in which writing is a substantial component of the student learning outcomes. These courses are primarily but are not limited to capstone courses. In addition to grading, it is expected that a relatively small amount of time will be required for orientation sessions such as the Writing Intensive Curriculum Faculty Seminar and meetings with course instructors. Communication with students to answer questions on grading and provide feedback on their technical writing is expected. Support Annual Academic Program Assessment and ABET documentation by collating material to demonstrate alignment between student learning outcomes, assessments, and grades.
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Technical Communications, English, or a field specific to the assigned technical program or project. AND Minimum of two years of experience as a technical communicator working with industry-standard authoring tools and/or software.
Bachelor (BA, BS, or BDes) degree in technical writing, engineering, or related field.
Experience as a technical writer in academic, industry, or government sector.
Demonstrated mastery of technical written and spoken English.
Strong attention to detail (needed for reviewing student work).
Demonstrated interest in encouraging and facilitating discipline-specific writing skills development.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Since all student assignments will be submitted online and all meetings and communication could be online, this position does not require being on-campus.
