We are seeking a Web Developer (Programmer Analyst) who will be a part of a fully remote team that provides web development services in support of the Johns Hopkins University Office of Communications.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Plays a key role in the development lifecycle that comprises technical build, testing, and issue-tracking using modern web standards and technologies for high-priority flagship websites for Johns Hopkins University.
In collaboration with other designers and developers, convert visual designs and written descriptions into well-formed and well-organized applications and websites, predominantly based in WordPress and Drupal, using the latest best practices.
Maintain, extend, and develop custom plugins, applications, and websites using open-source PHP content management systems and frameworks.
Write code in a git-powered version-control environment, with a commitment to learning and contributing to a shared set of programming best practices to facilitate easy collaboration and code maintainability
Recommend and defend programming decisions that best fit the needs of each project based on a strong understanding of the user experience, site usage analytics, information architecture, and other site research results.
Demonstrates an ability to work and effectively communicate with a diverse technical and non-technical team.
Identifies and resolves development problems independently.
Deliver high-quality work on deadline, with the ability to quickly iterate and incorporate feedback and new ideas from other designers, developers, and stakeholders.
Supports users by developing documentation and assistance tools.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
A Bachelor's Degree and one year of experience in developing and planning websites and applications required. Additional experience may be substituted for education. Additional education may substitute for experience.
Experience creating and maintaining custom themes, plugins, and Gutenberg blocks for WordPress required. Experience creating and maintaining Drupal modules required.
Some experience with Linux server administration and troubleshooting, content delivery network (Akamai, Cloudflare) integration, Rest APIs, Twig, SASS/SCSS, React, Backbone.js, unit testing and Git version control a plus.
Must be passionate about the web and demonstrate a willingness to stay up to date with an ever- changing list of best practices, new technologies, and new ideas.
Familiarity with analytics reporting, WCAG 2.0 or greater website accessibility compliance, website usability, and cross-browser compatibility issues.

This position will be fully remote with the expectation of traveling to the office when needed for meetings, workshops, and other requirements.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
