The CERT Cyber Workforce Development (CWD) team aims to lower the cost and time required to build cybersecurity expertise and to amplify that expertise to a globally distributed workforce. To achieve this, we develop and integrate innovative tools and processes to train, exercise, and assess cybersecurity professionals and teams. In doing so, CWD pioneers research and development efforts designed to counter cybersecurity threats to our nation.

CWD develops solutions for improving cyber workforce development capabilities and partners with sponsors to identify and resolve gaps that hinder their ability to counter rapidly evolving adversary tactics in cyberspace. We achieve this by helping organizations improve their cyber workforce's knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Position Summary:

As a member of CWD, you will work with other team members to develop and deliver cybersecurity training capabilities, programs, and software for US Government agencies and associated organizations.

Requirements:

• BS with 8 years or MS with 5 years or PhD with 2 years of applicable experience in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline
• Willingness to travel to various locations in support of the SEI's overall mission. This includes within the SEI and CMU community, sponsor sites, conferences, and offsite meetings on occasion. Infrequent travel (5%)
• You will be subject to a background check and must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance

Duties:

• Develop and maintain software applications used to deliver cybersecurity simulations, training, exercises, and events
• Work with fellow team members to collect and define requirements for software applications
• Provide technical demonstrations of new software features and functionality during sprint reviews
• Collaborate with technical writers to develop user documentation, installation guides, and release notes
• Deploy software applications to and troubleshoot them in production environments
• Work regularly with a wide range of software technologies and development frameworks

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

In CWD, we want you to learn new skills and technologies. In this position, you will potentially use the technologies in the following list. Previous experience or exposure to these technologies will be considered a plus.

• Strong oral and written communications
• Experience with Agile software development practices
• Programming languages: C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python
• Front end web development / web application development
• Frameworks: Angular, Angular.js, Node.js, .NET Core, RESTful API
• Scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
• Kubernetes
• Virtualization and cloud technologies (e.g., VMware ESXi server, Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, etc.)
• Technical problem-solving, analytical and information organization
• Server and desktop platforms (e.g., Windows, Linux)
• Network system design and troubleshooting

Desired Experience:

• Understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals and best practices
• Network administration (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, proxies, etc.)
• Federal government service in a position involving information technology or software development
• Demonstrated practical experience deploying and maintaining software applications in production environments
