The lead designer, university web strategy and solutions, plays a critical role in creating a cohesive and coordinated web ecosystem at Northeastern. They focus on delivering high-quality, accessible and performant visual designs within the context of the university's brand that leads to a superior user experience across all platforms and devices. The lead designer brings well-formed opinions about industry trends and best practices for effective UI/UX design. Additionally, they have nuanced preferences regarding the appropriate design tooling needed to streamline and fuel the success of each project. Working closely with university marketing, the lead designer assists internal business units develop their identity within the university brand. Along with strong design abilities, the lead designer effectively communicates with various clients and stakeholders as needed and delivers well-written, procedural documentation.
The lead designer is expected to build strong relationships with other university marketing teams and designers to align with industry best practices and to implement centralized web strategies.

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, interactive design, communication/media or related field.
Minimum of 4-5 years prior experience.
Experience designing with technical constraints for web and devices
Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Adobe Creative Suite
Excellent communication, time management, prioritization, and organization skills to meet deadlines
Must be self starter, takes initiative and possesses the ability to work independently and in a team

Work in coordination with members of the web solutions team to deliver high-quality, university branded, accessible, and secure web properties that achieve business unit goals and objectives.
Maintain and enhance the kernl() ecosystem to provide the university centralized tools for rapidly creating web properties.
Select the appropriate design tooling to effectively create, collaborate and maintain the team's portfolio of visual designs.
Determine the appropriate level of user research and testing required and conduct various exercises during a project's lifespan.
Lead iterations during the information architecture phase to optimize usability and wayfinding.
Provide art direction for photography, graphics and visualizations to enhance the level of visual appeal and compliment messaging.
Bring expertise on various information designs for key initiatives and communications.
Refactor existing web properties with specific attention towards maintaining a consistent user experience.
Conduct quality assurance testing to ensure desired outcome functions across all devices and platforms.
Coordinate with other university designers to set design standards that align with industry best practices and implement various centralized web strategies.
Take ownership of key web patterns (e.g., components, structures, templates, etc.) for the university design system.
Assist business units in developing their identity within the university brand.
Support and Logistics
Create efficiencies in the team's overall workflow by automating repetitive tasks, clearly delegating assignments and appropriately and eliminating any identified work deemed unnecessary.
Host weekly office hours.
