The Instructional Designer will have a depth of experience in and will be adept at instructional and program design. Further, the incumbent will have expertise in developing and supporting online courses. This position will be responsible for leading our Instructional Designer Teamâs joint work with our faculty with the conversion of their online courses. The Instructional Designer will apply their experience with sound instructional practices, the development of learning resources, and the delivery of courses via online delivery methods. They will have an in-depth understanding of online course platforms, instructional software, multimedia applications, and web-based educational technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in instructional design, educational technology, or related fields. A Master of Education in Learning Design and Technology or a similar graduate degree in instructional design or educational technology preferred.
Experience: Candidates with at least five years of instructional design experience in higher education or a corporate environment is preferred.
Field of Expertise: Directly related experience in supporting educational technology and/or hybrid and online teaching in a university or corporate environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and outstanding organizational abilities. Strong analytical, collaboration and negotiation skills. Knowledgeable about new teaching and media technologies in online education and instructional design and emerging trends. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Job Accountabilities:
Design of new online courses to complement our online library
Support in the transfer of existing courses to a new learning management system
Develop learning objectives and align content, activities, and assessments to those objectives, where necessary.
Directly support faculty in creating and designing instructional materials and instructional strategies while incorporating best practices and sound pedagogy.
Assist faculty in creating effective, engaging, and innovative online course delivery.
Develop recommended learning paths and content for faculty as needed.
Thorough knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to deliver engaging and media-rich online learning content and trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
Create media to support learning (visual aids, infographics, interactive exercises, animation, etc.)
Design, create and revise course documents and instructional-support materials.
Demonstrate fluency using and training users on LMS platforms, including Blackboard, Canvas, and Moodle.
Provide technical consultation, design, and course development assistance to faculty.
Support ADA Compliance and Quality Control efforts.
Support overall program initiatives.

Ability to translate content into visual, multimedia experiences, leveraging graphics, motion graphics, audio and visual design skills. Experience creating virtual or augmented reality courses. Demonstrated knowledge of gamification principles and application to learning experiences. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated understanding of the nuanced messaging required for various audiences and distribution channels. Experience distilling complex topics and content into personable, easy-to-understand information. Ability to oversee concurrent projects, prioritize competing assignments, and work under pressure with frequent interruptions. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office. Ability to exercise discretion with confidential information.
