The Office of Communications at Columbia Engineering seeks a part time (25 hours) a one-year, communications specialist to support the website redesign.
The Communications Specialist will be responsible for executing the project strategy, prioritizing features, building consensus, and coordinating product scope, priorities, budgets and schedules with the project team, internal stakeholders, and outside vendors to build a lasting, high-quality website. This position will also work with various internal stakeholders, external vendors, and administrators, as necessary. The Communications Specialist will report directly to the Executive Director of Communications.
( 50%) Collaborate with web design vendor to set clearly defined objectives and deliverables Prioritize tasks and oversee the execution of all assigned tasks and deliverables for Columbia Engineering team members, stakeholders, and vendors Establish and facilitate regular and as-needed meetings and trainings, including agenda confirmation and related materials.
(25%) Confirm and coordinate launch date with Admissions, Student Affairs, Dean???s Office and other stakeholders Work directly with stakeholders to create and revise content Create and write usable, consumable, and functional content copy that aligns with the School???s tone, brand, and marketing initiatives Manage the content audit and content migration from the current website into the new site.
(25%) Ensure the site???s visual design strategy aligns with the content strategy and the School???s information architecture needs Oversee the development of new visual assets for the redesign including photography and video. Develop and implement SEO and conversion strategies and content. Supervise content modifications and additions to the current website for the duration of the redesign project. Manage external vendor relationship Manage communications and reporting on project progress to the School???s senior leadership.
Bachelor???s Degree and 3-5 years related experience
The job requires a professional background in content development for digital communications, including the ability to write and edit copy, incorporate elements of user experience design, and optimize a modern content management system.
Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and presentation communication skills
Ability to communicate technical subject matter to non-technical audience
Ability to proactively identify process shortcomings and document steps needed to rectify
Experience with content management systems, SEO, HTML and CSS
Exemplary customer service skills
Master???s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Writing, Information Architecture, Digital Media or related field
Project management experience managing the creation and implementation of websites
Previous web-based project management, or related experience
Experience with academia, higher-education and international relations-oriented organizations a plus
