The Eberly Center and CMU Online seeks a Multimedia Designer to create instructional videos, visual, multimedia, and communications materials for online courses, other instructional design and educational technology projects, and communications design needs. This position reports to the Director of Design for TEL & Online Programs and works in collaboration with various members of the design team to understand and articulate design requirements, provide creative input throughout the design process, and produce designs that meet the various requirements.
Responsibilities
- Produce instructional video that meets specified project requirements.
- Provide multimedia, visual, communications, and user interface designs for a variety of instructional design and educational technology projects, and communications materials; produce high quality, digitally accessible products for distribution via web and print.
- Collaborate with team members to understand, articulate, and prioritize design requirements.
- Produce designs, artwork, videos, working mockups, and code to meet project goals/requirements.
- Create documentation and other support resources.
Required Skills:
- Video production, multimedia and visual design skills.
- Must have solid/effective and efficient video production and design processes (e.g., efficient use of the video production tool suite; ability to ideate outside of the tools to explore, articulate, and communicate vision; create mockups for review and feedback; incorporate feedback on design ideas; timely delivery of final high quality designs/products).
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, video production tools, web design/development, and Google and Microsoft Office productivity suite.
- Working knowledge of digital accessibility standards and experience applying those.
- Proficiency with general web development standards and tools (e.g., html5, css3, web content management systems).
- Experience working with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas) or other online course development platforms.
- Able to manage a variety of competing projects and deadlines.
- Listens carefully, especially when working with team members and clarifying project goals/needs.
Education/Experience/ Qualifications :
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in multimedia design, communications design, visual design or related field, or equivalent in work experience.
- A portfolio of work demonstrating the skills associated with this position.
- Experience in higher education is preferred.
- A proven record of working collaboratively with others; works effectively in diverse teams (including disciplinarily diverse).
