AVIXA (Audiovisual & Integrated Experience Association) is seeking a dynamic teacher and AV tech guru to join our educational team. The Instructor/Technical Advisor will regularly teach AVIXA courses around AV topics to adult learners, as well as act as an internal technical expert on content AVIXA creates for an AV audience.
AVIXA is THE trade association and professional society serving the audiovisual industry worldwide. In a time where the way that we communicate has undergone such a notable evolution, and supporting technology has accelerated in response, AV is booming, and we’re here to help reflect, explain, grow, grow with, and change it.
Our educational mission raises the bar within the AV industry by teaching best practices and certifying AV professionals. In serving this mission, you’ll personally be enabling individuals all over the globe to learn new skills, advance in their careers, and improve their jobs and lives.
Enable a new person to succeed in our industry with the knowledge they need. Encourage an installer with the skills to terminate cables or install a display. Embolden a veteran tech with the foundation to grow toward design, or project management, and beyond. Interpret and translate technical skills and knowledge to our members, our staff, and the public at large.
Grow your network. Grow your involvement. Become one of the faces of AVIXA’s public outreach, and join the community dedicated to and driven by the AV industry. Take your position as a leading figure within it as you develop new talent through teaching, explain new concepts to seasoned practitioners, and help develop updated content to ensure that our members can navigate the future of AV.
Who are you?
You are a passionate technologist who is an eager mentor, teacher, and presenter. You do not hoard knowledge; you are eager to share it. Your real-world experience of AV has led to an understanding of all aspects from installation to design. Traveling and working globally excites you.
Ego doesn’t stand in the way of admitting what you don’t know so you’re a perpetual learner. Reading and learning are part of your routine to stay abreast of developments in AV and you excel at translating complex concepts.
You are okay with some ambiguity, and things not being perfect – so long as the job gets done well – and you can self-motivate even in remote settings. You value flexibility and go out of your way for your colleagues as they do for you.
What will you do?
Teach AVIXA’s core courses from AV Install to Design to Project Management, while also cross training to grow your teaching repertoire to Networking and IT.
Instruct learners from all over the globe via virtual course delivery, and in-person classroom delivery at locations in the US and overseas.
Be the SME (Subject Matter Expert). Team up with editorial, video, social, and marketing non-technical staff to provide industry insight into the growing areas of AV and AV/IT. Demystify current industry trends or hot topics to get at the “why is it important” question, then tie those topics to deeper technical explanations or resources.
Provide course development support, and SME input on hot-off-the-press AV and IT-audience curricula.
Be a trusted voice in the industry. Create and deliver smaller technical presentations on behalf of AVIXA at industry events. Draft technical content for articles, whitepapers, or courses.
How you’ll make an impact:
You’ll be a catalyst for continually improving AVIXA’s AV content, working shoulder-to-shoulder with our Curriculum Development team. Wider than that, you’ll be consulted regularly on AVIXA’s approach to the AV audience in general and how best to serve this new segment with written content, video, events, etc. Essentially, you’ll be the “go-to” for AVIXA as we shape this together. All the while, you’ll get to regularly travel and teach individuals coming up through the industry, providing them with keys to advance their career. The industry is close-knit, so it’s common to meet these same students at industry events over the years and get to see first-hand how they flourish, building from the education you provide.
