The position is based within the Public Affairs and Communications team at the Princeton School of Policy and International Affairs (SPIA) and reports to the Director of Communications.
The position works collaboratively within the public affairs and communications team and interfaces with all units within SPIA. It serves as the visual design lead for all creative visuals produced at SPIA, including print, digital, video, photography, and social media.
The Creative Services Manager coordinates closely with University counterparts to ensure brand consistency and best practices.
Responsibilities
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop, recommend, and deliver the creative design vision to align with SPIAâ™s priorities, and brand look and feel; refresh overall brand guidelines
Align creative strategies with the Schoolâ™s overall communications and marketing strategy; proactively recommend ways to leverage the creative design to elevate overall look and feel of the school
Use strategic thinking to drive engagement of audiences with strong communications graphics, photography, and impactful infographics for use within digital and social media platforms
Provide input on the latest and relevant visual communications and graphic design trends. ⢠Develop and deliver presentations to internal partners and leadership on visual communications, strategies, and projects when needed
Advise and contribute to all materials with creative visual and branded components, including advertising, digital, marketing, print, social media, video, etc. This includes videos, logos, infographics, special events invitations, marketing collateral materials, digital posters, displays, print and digital ads
Oversee creative design projects from inception to completion in partnership with project management and colleagues
Ensure ability to transition projects across print as well as digital platforms
Manage creative design production schedule and align with overall editorial calendar
Engage freelance design vendors when necessary, oversee and provide direction to vendors
Manage junior staff, and freelance design vendors when necessary, oversee and provide direction to vendors. Identify, contract, and liaise with creative design vendors and freelancers
Recommend and oversee other design and production resources to meet deadlines
Develop and manage the annual visual communications/design budget
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to lead projects from concept to completion
Expert knowledge of methods, procedures, techniques, and mediums available for visual and creative design
Excellent typographical and conceptual design skills
Possess excellent design skills and understanding of clear visual communications for creating impactful messages and outcomes
Familiarity with various printing methods (offset, web, digital) and techniques, types of paper stocks, coatings, and inks
Experience conducting press inspections for high stake projects, prepare files for print
Experience organizing and directing professional photo shoots, directing illustrators, artists, and other creatives from concept to sketches to final art
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, project management skills, knowledge of professional business practices
Experience managing external vendors
Experience with printing and digital mediums and related industries
Knowledge of and experience with higher ed or nonprofit publications and related marketing materials
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a challenging but stimulating, immensely complex academic environment with high standards
Experience building and managing all aspects of a creative design for a brand
Attention to detail while maintaining the ability to think strategically and critically, aligning actions and ideas with others; ability to effectively collaborate and provide guidance on best practices
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced academic environment, excellent design skills and understanding of clear visual communications for creating impactful messages and outcomes
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in fine arts, graphic design, or related field
5 years related experience and a portfolio
Advanced degree may substitute for required experience
Preferred Qualifications
Communications, marketing, and branding experience
Experience in creative services of design for academic or other nonprofit entities
