1. Leads client meetings to determine parameters of projects. 2. Provides graphic design services centrally to the University community or to specific schools/departments maintaining established design standards and practices. 3. Uses considerable creative judgment regarding composition, media selection, typography, pictorial images, etc. to conceive ideas for graphic design work on assigned projects. 4. Applies a variety of traditional graphic techniques, equipment, and supplies as well as computer based graphics and/or desktop publishing software programs. 5. Effectively establishes client needs on assigned projects. 6. Produces graphics in the form of printed publications and other materials which are distributed internally and externally; electronically through the development of websites. 7. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skill/ability 1:  Professional-level skills working with Mac OS, as well as with Adobe Creative Cloud applications--particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Solid web design and UX/UI skills. Experienced in creating accessible digital publications in accordance with Yale's accessibility guidelines.

Required Skill/ability 2:  Superior typographic skills in crafting both text and display settings for digital and print final output.

Required Skill/ability 3:  Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively about design with clients and colleagues in person and in writing. Superior interpersonal skills to represent the office and the university well with faculty, administrators, and external contractors; ability to work with diverse populations.

Required Skill/ability 4:  Demonstrated ability to create, implement, and document unique, comprehensive visual identities/brands across all media for a range of organizations with varied missions, cultures, 'products,' and audience expectations.

Required Skill/ability 5:  Strong traditional or digital illustration skills. Professional-level skill in creating live or static data visualizations and information graphics. Professional-level skill in one or more of the following areas: coding, calligraphy, typeface design, interaction/experience, animation/motion graphics, video, or photography.

Preferred Education:  Minimum 4 years of professional experience in graphic design, illustration, branding, web design, and information graphics. Experience working in or for a university, or similar academic or cultural institution(s) M.F.A. from a recognized program in graphic design or a related visual design field.
