The Instructional Designer (ID) is responsible for exploring, identifying, developing, and supporting digital and face-to-face instructional solutions that promote student learning. The ID will collaborate with members of the Academic Innovation & Distance Education team to:
Work collaboratively with faculty to analyze instructional outcomes, develop learning objectives, structure learning activities and assessments, and deliver high-quality learning experiences appropriate for course goals and delivery modes.
Work with faculty to create courses that center student learning through the use of evidence-backed pedagogies, instructional design strategies, and learning technologies.
Provide individual and group consultation services to faculty to help them enhance their teaching skills, design online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses, and integrate academic technology effectively into instruction.
Partner with faculty to author digital learning courses and create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, etc.), exercises, activities, and assessment tools to create courses and course materials.
Diagnose problems and offer assistance when faculty and students run into technical problems navigating academic technologies supported by the Academic Innovation & Distance Education unit.
Design, create and host effective and innovative faculty and student workshops, training sessions, and institutes, using face-to-face, multimedia, and digital delivery methods, in conjunction with the adoption and deployment of digital learning tools and academic technologies on campus.
Provide consultation for faculty design teams engaged in curricular and co-curricular integration projects.
Pursue continuous professional growth, development and research in the areas of instructional design, learning science and the use of high-impact academic technology and teaching practice
Job Requirements:
Master's degree in instructional design, curriculum, educational technology, or related field; 3+ years of experience with higher education course design and development, preferably in a community college environment.
Experience designing courses for higher education programs.
Experience creating, delivering and assessing professional development programs for faculty and staff.
Experience applying learning theory and pedagogy to the teaching of undergraduates and the use of academic technologies in higher education.
Knowledge of course authoring tools and experience with Learning Management Systems (preferably Moodle);
Background in accessibility, usability, experience design, as well as knowledge of instructional design models, strategies, and best practices.
Knowledge of emerging technologies and instructional design models as related to teaching and learning in higher education.
Ability to work with a culturally diverse and inclusive work team.
Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio and video scripts.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently to manage multiple priorities in a fast- paced, dynamic environment.
Ability brainstorm innovative instructional strategies, visualize the user experience, student interactions with a course, and a finished product.
Ability to utilize visual design and multi-media skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years teaching experience in higher education, preferably with adult learners,
Formative and summative assessment expertise.
Experience applying instructional design processes to course development.
Strong computer skills, including experience with Apple creative tools, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $90,00.000 - $105,000.00
